Apple has had gaming consoles before. They have a solid gaming platform now. AMD and Nvidia get more money from selling their chips to everyone else though. If either had their own console no one would dream of using them anymore.


Honestly, after the RSX and the Xbox's GPU and considering the current nature of their Fermi chips I don't think Nvidia will get another chance at the gaming market. Developing a console and all it's components, even if it doesn't sell much more than, say, the XB or the N64, could prove to be extremely valuable feedback on their plans of doing CPUs and who knows what else.

Yes, one could argue Apple already have their own platform, but they lack a direct competitor to PSWii360. Even if it is a sort of media center/console hybrid updated every year, they should have something out in the market.
