I think you may forget that Microsoft isn't a charity, if they aren't making money on a product it will be discontinued. And as a whole since the inception of the xbox I do not know if they are in the black yet. It took a lot of cash to get the xbox brand going they have to recoup that and keep reinvesting in themselves.
