I just read in the WSJ that MS wants to try to make a phone OS that is easier and simpler to use, something more intuitive. Well, I'm not sure that this would be great for smartphone users, but it might be a better idea for regular cellphones, which are probably 80% of the total. But, MS is going to have to fight an uphill battle to beat droid, Gartner research says that droid MS should go from about 17% as it is now, to about 30% by 2014, which will mean that MS's phone business will languish if this takes place. |
Also need to realize the overall market is expected to grow a great deal and Nokia smartphone marketshare is dropping considerably. Finally I believe Android is going to face similiar problems as Windows Mobile had. Google doesnt control the OS and now phone with Android dont get updates unless the carriers/phone manufacturers release updates to the OS. Developers also need to test and tweak applications across various devices. Windows Phone 7 like iPhone wont have those issues. You can build apps for Windows Phone 7, but you cant change the OS interface and you only support 2 screen sizes.
Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.
