Hopefully this one will be good.
I haven't played R1 but jesus, R2 was so goddamn horrible. It has "generic" written all over it. The bosses were a missed opportunity and killing them usually involves some repetitive process till they're dead.
The gunplay was one of my main complaints - the way they handle....they just have this really boring/unexciting feel to them. No "oomph!" or inspiration.
