As somebody who voted for Ron Paul in the primaries I have to say he is absolutely not a voice of reason. He wants to eliminate public education and revert the dollar to the gold standard (there isn't enough gold in the world to account for the dollars out there so it would be an economic mess if they tried to change the value of a dollar.) The only reason I voted for him was because he seemed like the only honest man running and he raised issues that are normally ignored (there's a word for those candidates but I forget it) and thus brings them to center stage, but that doesn't really make him the voice of reason. He discussed the problems that needed discussing, but his solutions were terrible.
