If this is a murder trial, wtf does it matter if they were a gay couple or not?

Because being gay brings shame to him and to the royal family but being a murderer doesn't.

As you can see from my later post, I understand the social implications to a saudi/arab male. However, what I don't understand is why a western court is even discussing his sexual preference in a murder trial.

if he is gay then the sexual abuse charges become more believable and will probably get him more time in prison?

I don't know and I don't know what the charges are tbh.

Also just goes to motive.

Your more likely to kill a lover then a friend.

ESPIECALLY when that lover is in an abusive realationship with the suspected murderer....

and/or had the ability to out him, causing him to be shunned, cut off from his wealth and/or even killed if he goes home.

Either one is a slam dunk motive.
