how can you even say that. You didnt pay a single think in the Orange Box did you? Team Fortress 2 adds so much to the shooter genre its not funny. Portal is of course different because its a First Person Puzzle game not an FPS. Half-Life 2 showed what true AI should be. The hunter AI was amazing and the new challenges were definitely awesome. The other two games (HL2, HL2:ep2)were jsut valve's gift to people who didnt own the game. Remember that they were originally going to release "The Black Box" which would not have the first to games.
So tell me if HL2 is old then are you going to say that Half-Life 3 running on the Source 2 Engine will not be a GotY contender when it's released? |
Half Life Episode 2 is very similar to HL2, almost to the point where its too similar. It was the same case with EP1, but by ep2 you would think that they could've come up with some more gameplay concepts, or expanded things in unexpected ways. Instead it retreads old ground and stands up because those original concepts were so strong.
TF2 is a remake of TF, and it is hardly different than TF outside of art style and better gameplay balance.
Portal is based on an earlier game made by the same people.
Don't get me wrong, the Orange Box is an excellent package, but you give it far too much credit. There were plenty of more innovative titles this year.
And why the hell do you say HL2 has the best gameplay, story and beauty of any game? I can see saying it has excellent gameplay, but story? Honestly? It may be great by FPS standards, but there are plenty of better stories in other games. Hell, there are a decent number of FPS games that have a better story. And what the hell do you mean by "beauty" - art style?
