I think the PS3 might be more popular in Canada than the 360. From personal observations, I know more people now that own a PS3 than a 360 (there is some overlap).

I have a theory as to why the PS3 is more popular. Canadians are more tight with their money than Americans. Stats show that Canadians have less credit card debt and save more than their American counterparts.  American gamers couldn't wait for the next gen to come and just had to jump in in 2007 to play Halo 3. And they would frequently buy new Xbox 360s after getting the dreaded RRoD. My guess is Canadian gamers were more patient for the Playstation and were much less likely to put up with this faulty hardware shit. I didn't get an Xbox 360 until the 360 hardware was more reliable (I have a Falcon model). I and many other gamers were aware of how bad the situation was with the Xbox 360 hardware. And the newer Xbox 360 models arrived much later in Canada than they did in the states. Canadian gamers had to wait a long while for Falcon and Jasper model 360s to replace the old stock on the shelves.

And while the hardware situation improved with the 360, many Canadian gamers to this day are distrustful of Xbox hardware. Even when I kept repeatedly telling Xbox skeptics over here that the newer model 360s are much more reliable (the ones with the Falcon, Jasper or Valhalla chipsets. The Slims come with Valhallas and the Valhalla chipset runs the coolest and uses the least energy), they still don't trust the brand. Microsoft really screwed up their reputation outside the United States due to their past mistakes.
