Argh! How dare you to moke this once awesome company! You destroyed my image of it forever now, hope you're happy with that!

Pffft.... they were never awesome.
People just had really low expectations for shooters and platformers at one time.
OT: Yes, that indeed appears to be toilet paper.

I disagree ...
Personally, I thought Banjo-Kazooie was a better platformer than Mario 64 because it was more varied and they streamlined the gameplay a lot; while there were multiple objectives in each level, and you would probably have to play through each level multiple times, you didn't need to play through the level to complete every objective. On top of that Goldeneye was revolutionary for its time, and games like Jet Force Gemini were under-rated.
Later in the N64 generation, Rare really started to struggle, and their platformers became needlessly long and many of the rest of their games either took too long to develop or were much lower in quality than their earlier efforts.

As you said for Goldeneye, good for the time. Their older stuff like KI and DKC are still classics. But much of their N64 work didn't exactly pass the test of time.
I just get annoyed when people call them once great. They had a few genuinely good games, a lot of luck with good timing, and that's it.

They were at one point a great company. The problem is that most of the crew disbanded to different projects and companies. Also, it took them forever to make games, but when they were intact, that didn't matter. They are definitely not great anymore, alas, and that to me is true sadness.
I would discuss this more, but I feel like this is a differing of opinions, and I don't really feel like talking to a wall.
So, I'll just end it with I think you're wrong.
