Personally, I thought Banjo-Kazooie was a better platformer than Mario 64 because it was more varied and they streamlined the gameplay a lot; while there were multiple objectives in each level, and you would probably have to play through each level multiple times, you didn't need to play through the level to complete every objective. On top of that Goldeneye was revolutionary for its time, and games like Jet Force Gemini were under-rated.
Later in the N64 generation, Rare really started to struggle, and their platformers became needlessly long and many of the rest of their games either took too long to develop or were much lower in quality than their earlier efforts.
