well something that been in my head is 'what will be the next generation consoles', in the past its simply been upgrades of the past consoles to run better graphics with the exception of the Wii with Motion control.

With the big 3 (and maybe a other major company) are as of now working or already figured out their next console to be released in a period of 2-5 years from now. So what do you predict would be the next big thing to hit the market in the upcoming years.

here are my predictions:

Nintendo:

with the Wii being an success because it was the 'first' to do it i can see too pathways for Nintendos next console:

- WiiHD: an advanced Wii with improved power and online support, or could be a Wii3D console with Nintendo hopping on the Sony bandwagon for 3D console gaming.(predicted release time: Late 2011-2012

- New console that in a blend between motion and controller gaming  (predicted release time: 2012-2014)

- pull out of console market since controller consoles from Nintendo fail compared to that of Playstation and xbox and then focus on Hand-held and software and that sony/Microsoft may end up getting the edge of motion gaming.

Microsoft:

Now Microsoft is in a difficult position, they have to move to blu ray disks since games are getting bigger and bigger and regular disk cant cut it. I believe Microsoft has two pathways for there next console

Kinect only console: simular to what Sega did with the Sega CD then followed up with Sega Saturn which was CD based, Microsoft will release a Kinect only console depending on the success of the kinect (predicted release time: 2013-2015)

Xbox720: it will be a console which will probably be Blu ray and be technically like the PS3 but more improved and expanded online support and features and could have Kinect Built into the device.

Sony:

PS4: Simply this is the most likely thing to happen just like the PS1->PS2 where it went from Early Disk console to an more mature disk console, the PS4 will be a more mature Blu ray console that will be feature packed and will be a media hub device. The Ps4 will most likely have built in play tv, expanded 3D abilities, greatly improved processing power, cheaper than the PS4 and will support motion control even more.

well there are my prediction for the future consoles, and if its going to happen we will see one probably the end of next year with the WiiHD/or 3D model.

Microsoft will not have bluray I think, they're not in the "BRD Association" whereas Sony was a founder of it, so if Sony were to convince all of the other board members to not allow MS to have it then MS will probably not have it.

Anyway here's my predictions:

Nintendo - I think they will attempt to look for another gap in the market seeing as MS and Sony have also entered the motion controls. If not, a Wii HD and improved motion detection. I can't predict much from nintendo since I never play a Wii or never really played any of their consoles.

MS - It will not be called the Xbox 720 and I'll bet money on that. It will not destroy your discs if you move the console, instead the whole console will blow up (only joking of course). It will most likely use DVDs still unless they can blag for the use of blurays. They'll probably port kinect over if it is successful or they want to give it continued support and make it successful. If they do give kinect compatibility, they will make 2 skus, one for "hardcore" gamers where it's the console and controller and one for "casual" gamers where it is cheaper, the xbox has less memory and it includes kinect. Xbox live will be similar to what it is today.

Sony - I think the PS4 will similar to the PS3 in terms of performance, obviously the RSX or Cell (can't remember) production was stopped so it won't be the same, they'll just use a different chip for this. They will improve on their graphics card and the RAM available. They will focus on improving the 3D available and get it to a much better quality then it currently stands. PS3 b/c is almost guaranteed and there will be PS2 at the most. PS1 will not be there unless added at a future date. PSN will be similar to what it is today, maybe having a proper premium service with added features rather then little items.
