The problem with that satement is that that was then, this is now. When one mentions New England, they mean that region now, not what it encompassed in a historical sense.
That's like New Yorkers holding their heads up high when a team from Amsterdam, Holland win because New York has hisorical ties with the Netherlands.
On a side note, would suck if New England squanders it all in the playoffs.
