You can definitely game on a MacBook Pro 17" with a GT 330M video card and an i7 CPU. You also get 8-9 hours of battery life out of it.
I would not recommend this laptop with respect to this thread, due to cost, but I just wanted to respond, being you said it could not be done at any cost :).
