If Activision produces a $150 game that sells a couple million units and turns a healthy profit they're very happy as a company. On the other hand, if Kinect only sells a couple million units it is unlikely that Activision's efforts on Kinect will break even; because they're probably only going to sell to a small fraction of the userbase. Most games sell to 1% to 2% of a userbase, which means Activision probably wants 20 Million units of Kinect to sell to justify their current development efforts; and if you consider that the most expensive game/add-on to do that on a single platform is Wii Fit at $100 it is understandable that he would be worried about a $150 Kinect. |
Oh, I understand his motivation, it's greed. If it were up to him Microsoft would give Kinect away so that they could sell millions of Kinect games. Whats hypocritcal is to say that Activision can sell DJ Hero at 120 bucks a pop and earn a profit but Microsoft aren't allowed to make a profit on their peropheral since it's detrimental to Bobby Kotick making money.
You don't think artists would like to see the Hero games cheaper so that more people bought them and subsequently they had a larger userbase buying DLC?
