358/2d was about as low budget as it gets.  Seriously, 100% recycled content, barely any voice/CG and to a tiny outsourced dev?  Even something like Nier likely cost orders of magnitude more.  :/

Re:Coded looks higher budget, but then it's also a remake.  I wouldn't have called Re: Chain of Memories exactly high budget either, and it certainly cost more than Re:Coded will.

BBS seems to have had a pretty big budget though (it's basically a numbered KH in all but name), as so does 3rd Birthday.  Then again, I bet both still ended up being lower budget than stuff like Last Remnant, Star Ocean 4 or Front Mission Evolved.

You think that FME has a high budget? I probably won't it play but to me it looks like crap.

The Last Hope felt smaller than Till the end of time to me, and M$ did fund the engine, but yes, it certainly didn't feel low-budget at all.

One thing I'm certain of is that the avarage HD game from Japan way below western standards.

Appearently Demon's Souls did have a pretty low budget since they dind't expect to sell that many copies and was designed only with the Asian market in mind.

I wouldn't call FME "high budget" per se, but it still seems higher budget than basically every DS and PSP game I've seen out of SE (bar DQIX and maybe Crisis Core).  And if you want to compare it's budget to the FM games DS got... lol...

Honestly, I just don't much big budget SE stuff on the handhelds, and DS especially.  Bigger budget than GBA certainly, but usually lower budget than PS2 even.
