No, there's another analogy. There are some of us who believe this generation is more like the change from SNES -> PS1. The PS3 is more like the N64 and the Wii is more like the PS1 (which makes the PS2 like the SNES). The biggest dynamic is the change in market share for the different consoles and the chaos that it is creating for 3rd party developers. It took a couple years for that generation to shake out and it will take a couple of years this time before the writing on the wall is big enough for everyone to read it.

 Well... yeah. There's not too many people that post here that actually remember those days beyond fond childhood memories. Also, the whole "saving console gaming" analogy is more nuanced than most have the capability to follow. I agree that there are several comparisons to be made.
