Unless a movie is 4 hours long, the movie's file size is <10GB. Technically, we don't even need blu-ray for blu-ray movies. All you need to do is use compression rather than needing a new format. Heck, if we just switched to dolby pro-logic II for CDs we would have our perfect stereo sound as well as 5.1, 7.1 etc. all still fitting on that same CD. New storage media isn't really needed for anything to this day.
