This was a really bad PR stunt.

It's pretty much the worst PR stunt I've ever been on the receiving end of, as a customer of a company or user of a service.

But I forgive them, because I've never played Baldur's Gate.

I may forgive them even harder depending on what "huge releases" they announce today. If they announce Planescape... well.

Well, this is what was announced at the conference:

-will be DRM free
-they’ve added features like GOGMix (which is mixing up games that are rated similarly by GOG users),
game suggestions (lets say you’re buying Fallout 1, the store will suggest Fallout 2 and similar games),
-they’ve changed their community page
-added an easy way to browse through particular game forums
-added game genres in the store (action, rpg etc)
-added Baldur’s Gate to the store (at $9.99)
-made 150 games compatible with Windows 7
-announced more RPG classics (probably Planscape Torment and Icewind Dale series)

The bolded is not confirmed, a video of their conference should be up, soon.

Well their little stunt did not instill confidence in their service. In fact it showed a major drawback to digital distribution, if the store from which you bought your games closes, you may loose all your games.
