Some of you may remember this from earlier today, where Kudo Tsunoda said this:

"Halo did an awesome job of building a first-person shooter exclusively for the console, and now hardly anyone plays first person shooters on the PC anymore. It's all about the console."

http://www.gamerzines.com/pc/news/kudo-hardly-any-fps-on-pc.html

Well, PCGamer had something to day to Kudo today.

"At least 266,505 people played an FPS on a PC today"

"According to Steam stats*. And that’s before America gets its game on. Your move, Kudo."

http://www.pcgamer.com/2010/09/20/around-266505-people-played-an-fps-on-a-pc-today/

I found this pretty funny.

LOL, i would say PCGAMER owned itself there.  266K definitely qualifies as hardly anyone.

This has been explained in the OP. Notice how this is ONLY the number of people playing an FPS on Steam at that exact moment.

It includes nobody playing an FPS at that moment who isn't running it off of Steamworks.

But it says "At least 266,505 people played an FPS on a PC today" that doesn't mean at that exact moment in time...it means up until that point.

Now without a doubt there are more unique users that play FPS on consoles then on the PC.

Take these stats - for the Halo games alone there have been 2.8 million unique users in the last 24 hours, then you start to add the likes of MW2 which has at least 200k people online at any given time....then you start to think how not everyone has Xbox live, plus there are tons of other FPS games on the 360 so you gotta add them all up.  Even when you add all that up you have to remember the all the Playstation and Nintendo systems that people play FPS games on.

As far as FPS games are concerned it truly is all about the consoles....

yes but a major exclusive FPS game has just been launched, a lot of people that play PC FPS's will be playing REACH. And when was the last FPS for PC released?

Exactly there is basically a major FPS game released yearly (and I'm really only talking about 6 million plus sellers) on consoles compared to the PC which doesn't see that many big FPS games, which further reinforces that consoles are where its at for FPS games.
