Irrlitch : http://irrlicht.sourceforge.net/ It's a simple, yet pretty good C engine to make games. You can use CopperCube to make game scenes and SFML for Audio, and Newton for Physics (Irrlitch as basic collision detection). The community is one of the best I know. Is not as powerful as other engines, but for a start is great and is Open Source
