Out there? Yep.

Pretty much every star will have its own solar system and a lot of the solar systems will have planets with water, an atmosphere and climate suitable for complex life to evolve. Given the Sun is a fairly young star, it's likely there are civilisations many thousands of years older than we are.

I think if a civilisation has evolved to the point where they have developed interstellar space travel then they are likely to be fairly benign in intent. If they've visited us they've no doubt studied us from a safe distance and decided we're too primative to really be worth getting down and dirty with us. Perhaps they'll come back in a few more centuries when we've grown up a bit more as a species.

I think the Star Trek prime directive seems like a pretty good rule and it's probably in effect.
