I'll tell you what they have in common, Microsoft are trying to position Kinect as a product just like the iPad, completely original and basically the next big thing. Just mentioning iPad in the same sentence as 'something else' gives you free publicity for the 'something else'.
It's just smart PR, whether it's correct or not, it's smart.
