Amazon sold out of their initial shipment of Move controllers; they'll be back in stock on the 19th.
So that's not anecdotal. The biggest online retailer basically didn't order enough controllers to cover the initial demand.
I suppose the naysayers will claim that means Amazon only had about a dozen in stock for all of NA.
