It's inevitable, but if a society grew out of it, I don't think there'll be any reason to invent it back.

I agree,I think relgion divides and hurt's people,more than it helps them. Think of all the wars between different religions. Everybody thinks there religions are the right one.

  • Mao-Tse-Tung, Atheist: 40 million plus dead
  • Adolf Hitler, Atheist: 10 million plus dead
  • Pol Pot, Atheist: 2 million dead
  • Kim-Il-Sung, Atheist: 5 million dead
  • Fidel Castro, Atheist: 1 million dead

Those attrocities had nothing to do with those peoples' atheism, but rather with the political regime's they were promoting.

Yeah... you know.  That's the exact same arguement for the "wars between religions."

Except I remember religion beeing explicitely mentioned and ussed to rally the people to war. Did Stalin ever say "sacrifice your life in the name of atheism"? I'm sure the Pope did say something similar when he was urging Christians to go and fight in the Crusades (who were religiously motivated). Have you ever heard of an atheist state invading another country to spread atheism?

Actually... Lenin, Stalin.  Marxism in general?  Communism of that branch in general says one thing you need to do is get rid of religion.

Plenty of atheists on this board have wished religion would be outlawed.

The Crusades really had zero to do with Christianity and everythign to do with the economic realities of going to war at that time.

Those invaded always lost.

 

Religion was nothing but the "Referee" of Midevil Europe.

Without it... more anarchy and war would of happened.  Because said nations would be in a state of constantly invading each other to avoid the possibility of them being the ones invaded.
