If it's like KH then don't you control one character in your party at a time, and the others are AI, but you can switch control at any time? Not that I've eer played KH but I vaguely recall my kids playing and them doing something along those lines.

You can`t switch characters in Kh, it will probably be AI. Though you can probably switch them sometimes.

I don't know how many people ever played Summoner and Summoner 2, but both those games had up to 4 characters in a party, with you playing as one character and the others being AI (which you set / tweak according to how you want them to play: ranged/meelee/spell casting/healing etc), and you could swap between which character you controlled directly. Though I'm a bit vague now on whether you could swap during combat. It worked pretty darn well in those games, it should work well here.
