As TGS rolls out the one game Sony’s been able to keep extremely quite, mannaged to spill a little content out today. Some new details for The Last Guardian seeped through the cracks, as more details for the are being revealed.

Up to now the relationship between the boy and the animal has been a mystery, who’s the guardian, and who’s being guarded. The cat, bird, mouse, chicken, horse, dog, lizard, animal thing, that is found in Udea’s latest epic adventure, (we will refer to it as the Guardian for now), is both loveable, and powerful.

Who’s the Guardian? Well, that’s a hard question to answer at this point, and according to what we know so far, the boy set the Guardian free, and the journey starts with the Guardian protecting him as they both escapes. Once free the boy starts to lead the guardian through this mystical world that is vast, and beautiful. The Guardian is a vital part of your journey, he’s always with you, and as you used him to platform through the game he will require your protection as much as you will need his (we can’t say from what though). There are moments when you have to navigate to parts of the world alone, and enter places the beast cannot go. This separation creates the need for you to find a way through, to open a hidden path, or remove the obstacle that’s preventing him from moving on.

Much like you were able to do in Shadow of The Colossus with your horse, you can call, and even give commands to your Guardian. The gameplay is made in such a way that the boy almost leads the guardian along, seeing that you mostly play as the boy it makes sense that the guardian responds to you, more than you response to him. The Boy can give the following commands to the guardian, he can tell it what to claim cliff, or request a ride to cross a clasping bridge of rocks.
He can also call for help, or just request the dropping of his tail so he can claim up. The Guardian can attack, and even destroy rocks or pillars to clear a path . Climbing, riding, and control the guardian is the majority of the gameplay, however the experience never feels repetitive, the many situations, and creative puzzles you will have to figure out makes the game fell fresh, and makes the world feel majestic and expansive. The world was once a utopia filled with life and a thriving city; however it was destroyed by either a war, which lead up to a some type of major catastrophe. Keep an eye out for more on the last Guardian as TGS Kick’s Off
