Those were either possible or unnessacery before any hacks. When Geohot altered otherOS, SONY removed most emulation and homebrew options with OtherOS. JailBreak at the moment offers nothing but game back ups which was 100 percent [damn symbol doesn't work just like the plus symbol] useless to anyone that doesn't want to pirate games. We were able to back all of our software on any USB device and disc were not only reliable but scratch resistant and beyond easy to take care of. |
I was speaking generally on what hacking a console allows, not specifically related to PS3 jailbreak. It'll go further I'd imagine too, even if some of those things aren't possible now, they will be in time. And no, backups are useful to more than just pirates. I back up all my DS games and saves, and I only play stuff I buy and backup myself. It protects my physical copies, it saves space, it greatly enhances portability, etc.
Also, I wasn't aware Other OS allowed emulators to be run on PS3? Weird, I'd think it'd have gotten more widespread use then? :/
