Thats likely by design, it's a GAME after all.  You would have to be a trained dancer to perfectly match all the moves in the game.  It's like playing drums in Rock Band (same company), there is a some leeway given to how close to the note you need to be for it to be registered correctly.  I've seen some friends play who get good scores but if you actually listen to what they're hitting the beat is very inconsistent, you wouldn't say that that person is performing a good rhythm.
