Well that's interesting. Worrisome, but interesting. |
Still, it's above the PS2 at the same point in time. Actually, this month all 3 consoles are. The Wii only looks bad in comparison to its past self, and the exceptional performance of the HD consoles recently.
Comparison table since I'm bored:
PS2 (04) | Wii | X360 | PS3 | |
Jan | 340k | 466k | 333k | 277k |
Feb | 360k | 398k | 422k | 360k |
Mar | 290k | 558k | 338k | 314k |
Apr | 190k | 277k | 185k | 181k |
May | 250k | 335k* | 195k | 155k |
Jun | 430k** | 423k | 452k*** | 305k |
Jul | 310k | 254k | 444k | 215k |
Aug | 210k | 244k | 357k | 226k |
Sept | 250k |
* WSR bundled
** $30 price cut to $150
*** 360 Slim
The 360 has actually been keeping pace with NPD's PS2 sales for a while, its 4th year (2009) beat the PS2's 4th (2004, though largely due to shortages), and its 5th year is currently only about 10% behind (~260k), with a shot at beating it due to Natal / Halo.
So, it isn't so much the Wii losing steam faster than normal, more that the HD consoles are late bloomers.
