I'm not even religious though I've just heard members of other religions complain to me or to others that they don't have the privaleges Muslims do.
As for this "media" hype train, well I wouldn't blame the Media as much as I would blame Michael Bloomberg for how massive this isssue has become. I used to date someone from the LE and got to know her and her friends well enough, hung out in the area for shoping and so on. Honestly the community down there probably wouldn't give two snits, but then there's always the albino black sheep in the bunch. Mike Bloomberg has been on a tyraide to make sure that he is remembered.
History doesn't remember billioneres but it does remember the movers and the shakers. I remember when 9/11 happened everyone was rushing to take care of anyone they could down there, everyone assumes New Yorkers are big city snobs but the fact that I walk around and 9 out of 10 times someone will hold a door for me shows there's an awareness for your fellow New Yorker. 9/11 was just the fulcrom of that. Most people forget that New Yorkers unlike most of the rest of America aren't usually 4th generation americans, most of us come from other countries or are 2nd generation. But when 9/11 happened I remember people wanted to keep Juliani for a while longer even after his term until the issues were handled. But Bloomberg who had already narrowly won his election said no way and pushed hard on the two term limit statue.
Now Bloomberg has pushed and got his 3rd term and creates a big fuss over something that's none of his business, his job is to maintain the growth and peace of the city by managing the city agencies. The Borough President or the Local Council are who are supposed to be handling this case and at the top it goes to the State Senator.
It seems the most degnerous place in the world is between that man and a camera, he's getting old I guess.
But honestly I would love to know what the rest of the world has to do with this whole issue. The Federal government litterally has NO BUSINESS with this issue, a general half way around the world should not be commenting on this issue. The STATE GOVERNMENT has nothing to do with this. If those guys bought the property then they have a right to build whatever they want so long as it is law abiding. The thing is that if the community is against it THE COMMUNITY can sue them and 4 times out of 5 win.
(BTW Mike Bloomberg is on his 3rd term dispite it being rejected by popular vote 2 times. Then having the peoples vote ignored and the council of reps decided to ignore the law this once.)
I'm Unamerica and you can too.
