Well, the point is freedom. When DMA started coding the very first Grand Theft Auto, it didn't take long before they realized allowing a player to do anything they wanted in the game world meant accounting for everything a player might do. It took DMA an extra year just to code contingencies for all the emergent gameplay that popped up in testing. One of the most basic precepts, and one that still drives GTA over a decade later, is how the world responds to your actions, especially the bad ones. Break the law, and the cops come at you. Freedom to choose includes the right to make foolish choices, after all..
