Technically they shouldn't of been denied a permit.  Usually this is the kind of thing the Civil LIberties union would file a lawsuit over.

They should be allowed to do it... and people should just protest the hell out of it.

It's the most grownup way to handle it.

This is an unappropriate word considering the topic at hand.
