A game doesn't necessarily have to look beautiful to be considered a work of art. Just as a painting, book, movie, or a song doesn't necessarily have to beautiful either. To me a work of art is something that engages you and your imagination. A true masterpiece stands the test of time and has the ability to be timeless for generations.
For this generation I really think Gears Of War 1, Bioshock, and Paper Mario stand out for me. Even though none of those titles are anywhere near the best looking games of this gen.
