I don't think Castlesvanias has ever been set in the hacknslash genre.

And yeah, God of War is the standard of hacknslash. Every game in the genre wants to be like him (except Bayonetta but Im not very familiar with it).

To be fair GoW is a DMC clone. If it weren't for DMC. GoW could have come out a different game.
