A company different from MS, that already has two near-monopolies on PC, making GFWL and really caring for gamers, not making it just to figure out a way to integrate PC gamers in its wider strategies, would have been a welcome competition, made by MS was, besides crappy, very worrying. MS cares for PC gamers only when it needs them for its Windows strategies, and it considers them just a supplement anyway. And if MS were a fair and honest competitor, willing to succeed thanks to quality or value or both, it would have made D3D compete fairly with OpenGL, not tried to damage the rival at any cost, even against users' interests.
