Wasn't Lara Croft mascot of one U2 tour? She also made it to the movie world. She was a videogaming icon of one (short) period of time. So, it's somewhat justified.
What is not justified is leaving all the others (Mario, Duke nukem and so on)
Edit: Normally, that list is laughable in soooo many ways, one of them David Beckham being on the first place. I sincerly hope they are joking.
