What? Of course it does. Any add-on in the past allowed developers to do new things, often as if it were a new platform. EyeToy was like that, the N64DD (for the brief time it existed) was like that, the Sega CD, Sega 32X, Jaguar CD, PC Engine CD, were all the definition of new platform bound to an old one. |
not Quite:
these unline previous attempts all revolved arround the additional device needing to be used with the same control pad but did not offer a completely new experience in the way the game would be developed fom the ground up on the interactivity of the game and the player.
even EYETOY suffered because of the way the interaction of the player using the software was limited because the hardware was not robust as it would be needed. DR.Marks found this out early with the test's of the Playstation Wand.
Nintendo's own solution was like sony's but Sony's was more expensive, Nintendo used motion control's as you would as a new platform to make games for their system just like both sony and Microsoft are. it's no kwinkidink that both Sony and nintendo and to a lesser extend Microsoft looked at Motion control's
the reason being because Motion control's go hand in hand with 3D. why create a motion control scheme and not also look toward 3D as a means to enhance that motion control.
Motion control 3D is a good fit for development of games..Nintendo know this..hell even Cell phone companies know this with touch flow technology and the ideas of 3D being used not just in games but in the medical field it's no wonder were starting to see it come now because many of the companies were all working on it.
it's not something over night that just poped out of nowhere there was a growing interest into development well before these current systems.
unlike those previous add on's you had to look at the offer of motion control's not as an add on but as an extension of the way you develop games.
all three know this Nintendo was just the first to the market.
