It had nothing to do with an "campaign of intimidiation." It's a campaign of common sense.
They have the right to build a 15 story community center, but it's a douchebag thing to do. You literally can't miss the new building where the WTC subway is. It'd be the equivlent of building a church right next to like, every abortion clinic every bombed, when you consider the size of it... and the fact that people want to pay their respects there.
As for this event... I would be surprised if this didn't happen every week... and also in churches and synagouges.

What an odd question. Decided to break from the herd and pass on the Shinto shrine at Pearl Harbour analogy?
Tons of churches all over my town. I'm not sure if I'd notice one that went up next to a vacant lot that used to be a medical facility. I couldn't even tell you where the abortion clinics are in my town. As long as the church didn't put up giant banners asking God to bless His Holy Arsonists, I don't think I'd have a problem with it. I'm not going to hold a few arsonist evangelicals against the whole group.
Common sense is moving on. This is just the usual political exploitation of what should be a non-issue.

A vacant lot isn't the same thing a clinic that was blown up with a bomb and killed people.
Also you failed to note that both of those shrines were built like 20 years BEFORE Pearl Harbour.

Also you know... nobody is saying "You can't build a mosque in NY city."
Just "how about not building a 15 foot mosque within view of the WTC and the WTC subway.
Another big difference? The Japanese were defeated. The group that supported the bombing of Pearl Harbour is gone. There isn't any risks of Japanese bombers bombing Pearl Harbour or any other place in the US.
I'd guess though, you can't see the shinto shrines from pearl harbour... and that most people effected by pearl harbour are actually dead at this point.

You asked me a question, and I answered it. Wherever this hypothetical bombed clinic is in my town, there's a 50% chance it's within sight of a christian church, and a good chance that church is evangelical. I sincerely doubt that many people would care if another one went up, because they wouldn't think of that bomber as a christian terrorist, they'd just think of him as that crazy asshole who blew up a clinic.
And I'm seriously okay with that. I don't think evangelicals should have to second guess their actions because one crazy jerk took things too far. Nor do I think that muslims in New York should have to relocate a major project (I'm guessing land is hard to come by in that area) because a group of crazy assholes did something stupid ten years ago in the name of Allah.
You asked, I answered. If my answer isn't good enough for you, do try to keep in mind that I think this is a stupid non-issue.

Which i'd never heard of because there isn't a "herd" I followed. Which is just an insulting comment.
I at first thought it was a non issue until I thought for a couple minues and realized just how insensitive it was. If it was me I'd of never built something there.
All I had to do was imagine it from a different perspective. IE come up with the same situation but where the Republicans would be for the building, and the Democrats against... and the Church was the first that came to mind.
Better one group have to merely second think something and move, then cause another group harm.
I gurantee if somone were two want to build a shinto temple 2 blocks away from Pearl Harbour... 9 years after it... people would of been pissed about it... and have good reason. It's just insesnitive unneeded and causes people unneeded stress.
