@superchunk -- makes sense

It makes sense because, Sony already has a Playstation stack already working on Android!

"“We have done extensive skinning of the Android platform. because we really wanted to make it a bespoke experience,” says George Arriola, head of user experience for Sony Ericcson.

Sony’s UXP interface attempts to do the same thing as rivals like Motorola’s MotoBLUR: namely, aggregate social networking feeds such as Facebook and Twitter into one stream, integrate that data with your phone address book and contacts, and personalize the multimedia experience.

“We took a very sophisticated PlayStation middleware and shrunk it to fit the Android OS,” says Arriola.

yeah, but what chunk suggested will be a big change of business model, from having a handheld plus games........to just games that work on many android phones

it's not a change in business, it's just an expansion of it's existing model. think about this the games made will still work on the PSPGo!

the Idea just because they move to add another Hand held like a smartphone does not mean they have to drop the orig. PSP it just mean's they can keep the PSPGo in the market and lower it's price but keep it on the market. It may not get as many sales but when your still selling 80,000 PSP's world wide a week that's nothing to sneeze for a system that's old, esp a hand held.

and all psp's even the origional can still get their games from ....wait for it... PSN. so it does not leave anyone out.

the IDEA is just like the PDA market the smart phone market is prime an geared to gobble up the dedicated hand held game market's market share..but so what if it does...think about this the markets so freakin large it does not really matter, sony is putting the PSP..platform in a much larger space which mean's a ton of growth. Any Hand held in this day in age play's more than "just games" the idea of just the game console is pretty much done . that is long gone. and most likely never coming back.

the reason being would you ever see the day that a game console does more than just play games..even nintendo Wii, DS, and even the new 3DS does more than just play game's.

the Games console has moved on..by convergence.

well, yes having a new PSP with games, and allowing other android phones to have PSN games *would*
be the same model.....but chunk said that this would probably mean that there wouldn't be a "PSP" after this next one, because any phone could use the PSN.  It just sounds like a big change, that's all.

Q: what is a PSP?

The Playstation Portable (officially abbreviated PSP) is a handheld game console manufactured and marketed by Sony Computer Entertainment.

A PSPphone what would change with that Definition nothing..it's still made by sony!

the fact that if and I do mean If sony allowed other Android phones to access PSN and download the PSN games would that make an Android phone a PSP?

but what if Sony allows other manuf. to make a PSP also! would that still be a PSP?

all of those could access the same PSN!

what if the New PSP is not by hardware but by licence and software access to the PSN! added to Android phones that pass the needed min spec's.
