I first started noticing mass produced DVDs from 1999 on. Blu ray was created in 2006, it is 2010 and a poster before me noted that, "http://www.homemediamagazine.com/ 11% marketshare (total revenue - not just "top 20") after 4 years on the market. And I have yet to see a pc game on Blu-Ray." -mitlar37 Have we reached the mass crossover appeal from the higher end home video market to the mass home video market for blu ray? If not, then why not? If so, then why does my brand new 2010 gaming laptop come with a DVD-RW player? It has been 4 years. I would be stunned if the cost of production for blu ray movies is not equal nor less than DVDs at this point. |
I cannot link but believe the original cost of BluRay Disc fab was approx 8 bucks per disk at launch.
The comparable DVD fab was approx 40 cents per disc.
I'm sure costs have fallen but you cannot seriously expect production to be cheaper than a DVD.
