It's not the same. When you buy a Wii you know that there are more motion controlled games for it. With that PS2 thing, there is no guarantee.
With the proper games/marketing etc it could be a hit, like Singstar/Buzz/EyeToy are in some regions. But I think the Wii already owns the motion control market (at least for this gen), and that you won't get Wii sales just by copying the Wii (Sports) concept.
