1. The benefits to playing as a soul are that you can't be invaded, and when you die the world tendancy doesn't shift towards black.
2. There is a spell you can get the banishes invaders from your world. I think it's actually called banish. Also, wearing the thief ring and casting the spell Cloak makes you invisible you invaders.
3. I think the Demon's Souls wiki announces upcoming events.
