And some people read way too far into things and take the more seriously than need be. I'm not spreading doom and gloom, just stating the obvious. From the standpoint of Sony, they need to focus on a sequel to the PSP soon to avoid the competition (3DS) from taking too much marketshare. It's seeing declining sales and hasn't managed to make much headway against their competitor. I'm merely stating the situation the way Sony should be viewing it. They will hurt themselves far more if they waste time trying to extend the life of the PSP and not focus on a competitor for the 3DS. Sure the sales are plenty for now, but their focus still needs to be on the future, and it needs to focus on expanding their audience to gain marketshare. |
I don't get how experts on sony's view point pop up all of a sudden nowadays. If anything if the rumors are to be believed they are already in the works to bring forth the next psp iteration to the market soon. But they are keeping up good sw support until that arrives. Reason? no one can be certain but if I were to guess it's because they do not want to rush the product just to satisfy rants on forums. They should take their time to not let what they went through in the initial years of ps3 to not happen again.
PSP's sales are just fine as they are. It's an old handheld now. It has had no significant price cuts in ages. It has some strong games coming up for it. It performs well in EMEAA and Japan. SO yes it does have some life in it. And this doesn't mean they will not have the next one out before this one ends. They will most probably intro the next psp, and then cut the price of the current one. A ps3/ps2 scenario is likely.
But no, again, PSP is not dead. It maybe slowling down a lot but it still sells well.
