Even if it is legit,  Sony could start putting firmware updates on game discs that would be required to play those games which would negate this completely.

Sony might have to give back Linux though

How so?  The software that this runs on could also be updated/patched to work with new firmwares.  And if they start putting updates on discs (which they have already done at least once), how would that stop anything since the entire contents of the disc would be backed up and then ran as if it were a legit copy?

Just like with other things that get jailbroken, it doesn't take long to beat new patches/firmwares with a new jailbreak.

If they require the firmware to be installed to play the game,  it would stop this, putting the entire contents of the game on the hard drive wouldnt do you any good unless the firmware update was installed.

Plus its not jailbroken,  its hacked,  they are aiding piracy with this and what they are doing is illegal.

What I am saying is the firmware update could still be installed because it would still be on the external hard drive and appear to the PS3 as if it were running off of the disk.  If that firmware breaks the current jailbreaking system, then yes it would work, but only until a new/updated jailbreak comes out.

Stop calling it jailbreaking,  this is a flat out piracy hack.  This isnt the same thing they do to the iPhone

It's the same thing they do for Wii, PSP, and 360 (jtag).  Its a jailbreak to use for homebrew and/or piracy.  If it was just for piracy it would be like the 360's flashed disc drives.  The iPhone is jailbroken to allow custom apps and modifications that are not intended by the manufacturer.  Same thing.

Using apps that are not allowed to be used by the manufacturer and stealing apps from the manufacturer are 2 different things.  This being the latter, so no its not the same thing.

I'm pretty sure jailbroken iPhones can play stolen apps too.  You're just arguing over a term.  Everyone is using it for the PS3 so it must fit pretty well.
