so all new 360 owners will live with one game. even though in the past 5 months great games came out. so they are going to wait for halo reach and fable 3, instead of going and picking up splinter cell, mass effect, read dead redemption. hell if they just bought a 360 they would have gotten gears 3, fable 2, halo 3 odst. so you think that 700% increase was to new owners because it was shiny, had no rrod and had integrated wifi, which the ps3 already has. did i ever say it is only people upgrading? |
Of course a lot of that 700% would be people upgrading. I will be upgrading myself eventually to the halo bundle.
The point is to make a statement like "most of those will be upgraders as there is no software boost" is wrong.
Again just to use what that other guy said above about the PS3 being ahead in software. He is 100% right. However if we look at this weeks numbers we see the only reason PS3 is ahead is due to the release of a game in Japan. In the following weeks PS3 will probably fall behind 360 again what with Halo coming out. When we see those software totals of like 4m for the 360 will that then mean everyone who bought a new console that week were new 360 owners? Of course not. It will be because of Halo being released. It is hard to say what effect on software consoles sales should have. For example prior to the new model the arcade was the biggest selling 360 sku. A pretty bog standard bundle with no games, no HD etc.. But people bought it in droves. If those people wanted to buy a game with it why did they not just pay that bit extra to get the premium console with a game bundle? The overall point i am trying to make is that while a lot of people will be upgraders, a lot will also be new owners. And a lot of those new owners will not be so clued up on games, they will buy them eventually. What is to say the combined sales from say MW2 and RDR this week are not new console owners?
