Private colleges are expensive but going to a state school is a lot cheaper. Going into science you need at a minimum a Bachelors degree if you want to go anywhere and really should have a Masters or PHD. I'm working on getting my Bachelors in Environmental Science and I wouldn't be able to get a good paying job in the field without it. If I want to run any projects, which equals more money I will need my masters.

I have a masters in info systems, and a bs in management.  I did 20-30 hours total contract work in IT in 2009.  2007 was the last time i woked full time in IT as a contractor (I was with IBM from 1997-2004).  Since being out of work, my student loan debt went from 32K to over 50K.  I can't get out of this debt, and they will garnish even social security payments.  After all this what I was able to get was part-time janitor work.

As for "going into science", how many science jobs do you think there are? As for running projects, you need experience.  And yes, if you do see you need a Masters, get it while working.
