A better way to view it would be this:

PS3 and 360 are two racing cars, when the green flag was waving, 360 had a fantastic start, and PS3 had engine troubles, so it lagged behind from the start. It's trying to catch up but the attempt seems to be futile.

In the meanwhile, Wii has already finished the race ages ago, so it doesn't really matter who crosses the finish line second anyway

And my, even better way to view it would be this:

Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo are all in a console race.  Sega crashed and a yellow flag went up.  Sony and Nintendo took a pit stop while Microsoft, having taken a pit stop already, kept going.  When the green flag went out, Microsoft was a lap ahead.  Nintendo has the fastest car, and it quickly and easily took first place from Microsoft.  Sony's car is just a little bit faster than Microsoft's and is slowly catching up, though Microsoft is known for pulling away a bit when it gets to the corners.  The race isn't over yet.

But tell me this: how can a console be racing laps with corners and all?
