I wasn't a big fan of the 'Cube controller, myself. I loved the system, but the buttons were too oddly-positioned for my liking. I don't think any face button should be that much bigger than any other face buttons. Also, what was with the z button? Did it ever see any important use, in any game? I think they just tossed in on there as 'fan service' to the people who loved the N64 Z-trigger (if that makes sense).
Also (and this is still a problem on the Wii), why do Nintendo's first-party analog sticks for their systems have octagonal ridges, instead of being circular? It makes it all but impossible to move in a direction that is not forward, left, right back, or 45 degrees DB!!
One thing I did love about the GCN controller, though, was the trigger buttons. They gave a very satisfying 'click' when pushed in all the way. Made firing guns feel very cool.
