Yeah a $50 price cut would be beastly for sales, but would cost them a ton of money. They're only making a few bucks on each console sale so dropping the price by $50 would mean they're losing over $40 on each sale.

They were making a small profit in March at $299, 6 months later, in September, they could easily at least break even at $249 (tuning of the shrunk production process that allowed the last major cost reduction, normal drop in ICs, HDDs and optical drives costs, BTW old 120GB HDD they used had a higher cost than newer 160GB ones they are adopting for entry level, etc).
