I had a similar problem to this with the analog stick on the left. It points slightly inward, as your hand will face slightly inward while holding the controller, but I always move the joystick as if it's aligned with body, and not just my hand. Because of this, all my attacks in Smash Bros. would be slightly off, so instead of an "--> A" strong attck, I would do a weak upwards attack, etc. I always lost in SSBM because my attacks would be slightly off. I had to much pride to use the c-stick though, lol.
